Fete & St Petroc Celebrations

St Petroc was a 6th Century Cornish saint, who founded Padstow and Bodmin. He was also the unofficial Saint of Somerset.

The first St Petroc’s Fayre took place in Shepton Beauchamp on the 24th June 1138. This annual fayre lasted for 3 days – one day for wool trade, the second for trade of produce and the third day was for merriment.

The tradition of an annual St Petroc’s Fayre was started by the Beauchamp family and lasted for 300 years, fizzling out after the Reformation.

We are re-creating the merriment element of this Fayre in 2009 over two days for your enjoyment and hope that you can join in on Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th July
